Uluwatu Temple Entrance Fee & Attraction

Many travelers have known the beauty of Uluwatu Temple in Bali. For the reason that the location of the temple that set right at the edge of a rock cliff. Enabling visitor of the temple to access 180° view of Bali sea cost. Uluwatu temple is also a traveler favorite choice to see the sunset.

History Of Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple is 30 km away from the city center Denpasar. The temple is also known as Pura Luhur. And consider as one of the substantial temples on Bali island. There are two versions of the temple history. Some people believe that Uluwatu temple is built by Empu Kuturan.

The Power Of Dang Hyang Nirartha

The temple is belief already exist in the ninth century during the reign of Marakata. The other version of the temple history is related to Dang Hyang Nirartha. Dang Hyang Nirartha, a priest that is worship in Tanah Lot Temple. The people believe that Uluwatu Tempe is another work of Dang Hyang Nirartha.

The story begins when Nirartha comes to Bali island in 1546. Bali is ruled by Dalem Waturenggong during that time. And suffer from many plagues years before Nirartha came. Nirartha then makes a vow to the King. That he will remove all the suffering with just a hair from his head.

It seems that Nirartha succeeds in removing the plague. The plague is disappeared, he gets a blessing from the King to spread Hinduism. Nirartha then continues his spiritual journey in Bali island. He stops at Pecatu hill and builds Uluwatu Temple that still exists until today.

During his life in Bali, Nirartha spread Hinduism and build some other temple in Bali. But at the end of his spiritual journey. The priest returns to Uluwatu temple. The locals believe that Uluwatu temple is the priest last destination. He leaves the world and going to heaven.

Today, Pura Uluwatu still celebrate the anniversary of the temple. The ritual is performed in Anggara Kasih day, Tuesday in Saka calendar.  A spiritual ceremony for 3 days in a row is followed and celebrate by thousand of Hindu people in Bali.

Attraction In Uluwatu Temple

Visitor can spend almost half a day in the temple area. Since the location is quite a distance from the city center. Spare at least 30 minutes to an hour to reach the temple. The congestion is sometimes worse during peak season.

Just like any other typical temple in Bali. Uluwatu temple is populated by monkeys. The monkey character is also similar. They like to snatch visitor belonging. Avoid using a necklace when entering the temple. As this type of stuff is easy to snatch.

Although the temple is always packed with a visitor. The temple itself is worth a visit. There are also many food stalls selling various kind of Indonesian dish in the parking area. Make sure to pick and order a coconut water. The coconut will be the perfect couple to try with the Indonesian street food.

Kecak Dance Performance In Uluwatu Temple

Kecak is a traditional Balinese Dance and the most attractive one compare to another traditional dance. The unique part of the performance is the uncommon music used in the dance.

The music is not produced by a musical instrument like other traditional dance. But the sounds of men’s voice chanting “cak .. cak .. cak” as the music background. Almost every tourist attraction in Bali performs Kecak Dance. But Kecak Dance in Uluwatu Temple is the most famous of all.

Visitor can watch the dance performance after reveling in the sunsets. The performance takes place in an outdoor area that can gather a hundred people. The dance show will begin at 06:00 pm local time. Making the show is more dramatic with the sunset background.

To get the best spot in watching the performance. Come early 30 minutes before the shows begin. At the audience stage, choose to sit facing the sunset to get a better view.

Entrance Fee Uluwatu Temple

The entrance ticket to the temple can be purchased at the ticket booth in the temple area. The entrance fee includes the use of “Balinese Sarong”. Payment is accepted by cash only and using Indonesian Rupiah currency. While tickets to watch dance performance is also sold in the same ticket booth.

Uluwatu Temple Facilities

A decent toilet and facilities like tourist information center are available on the spot. Hawker selling Indonesian street food and dish also available next to the parking area. Souvenir shop in a row selling the traditional handicraft and Balinese sarong. Make sure to bargain at least 60% of the offering price.
